Museum of Ethnography

Business Details
The Ethnographic Museum is a national museum, which was built at the gate of Városliget, along Dózsa György út, as part of the Liget Budapest Project, specifically for the museum. The new building of the Ethnographic Museum was handed over in 2022, the year of the institution's 150th anniversary.
In 2022, the institution opened its doors in a modern building specially designed for the Ethnography Museum for the first time in its history, which meets both the professional requirements of the 21st century and the needs of visitors.

Within the framework of the Liget Budapest Project, the dynamic and modern structure was built on Budapest's Ötvenhatosok square, on both sides of the fifty-six monument, on the former parking area, which gives the collection a new home on 33,000 square meters. The simple, curved-shaped building was created by the Hungarian architecture firm NAPUR Architect, selected in an international design competition, with the involvement of nearly 250 designers, under the guidance of lead designer Marcel Ferencz.

60% of the building is located below the square level, and there is a green area on top, which serves as a community space for visitors. The museum building also serves as a kind of gate, since this is where the urban fabric meets the city park, and here visitors can enter not only the museum, but also the City Park.
