Szeged Observatory

Although the Szeged Star Observatory was founded only in the early nineties, a demonstration observatory has been operating in Szeged since the seventies at József Attila University (JATE). In 1985, the University of Odessa donated a telescope with a 40 cm main mirror diameter to JATE. As a result, a few years later, the Szeged Astronomical Observatory was founded, which operates and maintains the Szeged Astronomical Observatory to this day. Our building, located in a corner of the Botanical Garden, has been welcoming those interested in astronomy since July 1992. From the very beginning, our institute has had a threefold purpose: in addition to scientific research and the education of astronomy students, the opening hours for educational purposes are also an extremely important part of the work carried out at the Szeged Observatory. Thanks to this, the number of families and groups visiting us is increasing every year.
